When I was a little boy I never considered butterfly farming as a career choice. My dad the science teacher, my mom the librarian, and my grandparents were major influences on me while growing up. They taught me to revere the natural world and to enjoy sharing it with others.
My resume is varied: whitewater guide/instructor; scuba instructor; business owner; and elementary school teacher.
As a teacher, I was blessed to be surrounded by great administrators, teachers, parents and students. That is where I started my relationship with butterfly education and rearing. I parlayed that opportunity into a state award, a national award and finally into my own butterfly farm. Thus, Greathouse Butterfly Farm was born.
I love what I do. I have traveled around the globe and met with butterfly farmers from all over the world. Most of all, I have enjoyed sharing my love of butterflies with others. I am a blessed man!
